Top 7 Lyrics I’ve Come Across.

My first top somethings list!!

First of all, its great to be back after a long break. Exams and a host of other things had come up, and thus keeping up with writing this was a bit technical. Also, I got ablock of ideas, so when praying, I asked God, please give me something to write about. And He said, no, my son. Finish your exams first and then I’ll tell you when to do so.

And that happened on Tuesday, 22 December 2015 at 2200hrs while doing dishes at the sink. Why not share some of the songs I have on my phone and how they narrate a time in my walk with God? But that would mean a booklet hahahaha😂😂😂… so instead I decided to look up at some really good songs and the weight that the lyrics carry.

It is my prayer that you will be blessed. I chose 7 because five is too few, and 10 is too many. Average is eight, but since I am the writer of this post I chose seven. Got a problem with that😝😝😝?

So here goes…

7. A Little More Jesus (Chris August)

I could use a little more Jesus/and a little bit less of me
I could be a little more humble/if we’re speaking honestly.

John 3:30  He must increase, but I must decrease. (Modern King James Version)

Well, I’d say that speaks for itself. Imagine what the world would be like if all we did was forget our worries, our cares and troubles and just make Jesus the centre of our lives. That in all we do, He will be seen more than we can be seen. We aren’t called Christians for nothing.

6. Father’s Child (Abel Chungu)

I have tasted grace/ so sweet I cant let go
Once an awful mess/ now pure
What can separate/ me from my Father’s arms?
I will always be my Father’s child.

Romans 8:38-39  For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (MKJV)

This is one of the best songs I have ever listened to and had the pleasure of committing to memory. Look for the song and listen for yourself; better yet, Google the lyrics and just read them.

5. Whom Shall I Fear/God of Angel Armies (Chris Tomlin)

I know who goes before me/ I know who stands behind.
The God of angel armies/ Is always by my side
The One who reigns forever/ He is a friend of mine
The God of angel armies/ is always by my side.

Psalm 46:7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah. (KJV)

What a wonderful thing, to be called a friend by the Creator of the universe, One who commands armies (no, not one or two, not even a million. Hosts in the Bible means any great number or multitude. Yes, great is subjective to opinion, but I think God is a BIG God. If He created uncountable stars, how many angels could He have created?) He goes before me and behind me, but what stands out starkly is ‘friend’.

4. Faithfully (Chris August)

Even when I run/ You know the way
To guide me home to You/ and love me faithfully…
God You’ve always loved me faithfully.

Jeremiah 31:3  Jehovah has appeared to me from afar, saying, Yea, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you. (MKJV)

Well, let me be honest… Chris August is one true to the core artiste. Get some of his songs and you’ll see what I’m talking about. This song helps me see that no matter how far I run away from God, I will always end up running back into His arms, for His love stretches from eternity to eternity.

3. Hold Me Together (Royal Tailor)

Can You hold me together?/ can Your love reach down this far?
Can You hold me together?/ Cause without You holding my heart
I’m falling apart…

Psa 139:10  even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. (MKJV)

Without God’s love holding us, bringing us close to Him, we cannot stand on our own. Without His mercy and grace, we would still be a broken mess, and that is why we need Him all the more, for in our weakness is His power made perfect.

2. The Reason I Sing (Jimmy Needham)

Even accolades someday will fade away/ just like me
Everything but You
And many years from now/ it wont matter how
I write the rhymes I do, yeah
Help me get back to the reason I sing for You.

Psalm 108:1 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and I will give praise, even with my glory.

As a singer/musician (still on my way, just smiling ☺ and waving 👋 … smiling ☺ and 👋…  😂😂😂), I listen to this song and, honestly, its like a slap to the face. Accolades will fade away like me… come on, Jimmy, why so cold? But it’s the harsh reality; we might not only sing, but do everything we are gifted with just as a means of getting acceptance or fame or praise. May God help us get back to the reason we sing for Him, teach for Him, in all we do, may our hearts be fixed on Him.

And finally…

1. The Maker (Chris August)

More than just some words upon a page/ You’ve shown me in a million ways
But there is one that stands above them all/ hands of creation on a cross…

Romans 5:8  But God commends His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (MKJV)

I. Can’t. Even… that last line just brings me to tears when I begin to fully comprehend the vast expanse of God’s love. The hands that created the world, the hands that formed me, the hands that hold me close to Him when I’m at my weakest… those are the very hands that were nailed to the cross in my place. Oh my… I think I’m swooning…

And there concludes my first ever top somethings list. I have close to 700 songs on my phone, so do look out for future lists with lyrics that speak your mind when words fail.

Have a blessed week ahead. (Christmas!!)
